Together We Work For The Community, Together We Progress

2.11.2017 : Program Menyantuni Warga Nelayan Daerah Port Dickson (III)

Friday 3 November 2017
On 2nd November 2017, I joined  Mohd Aryan Kailash, Chairman of Persatuan Pembangunan Masyarakat (PPMNS) Negeri Sembilan together with Mr. Hishamudin Abdul Manap, Committee Member of Kampung Paya JKKK to visit 5 fishermen at Kampung Paya and Taman Seri Tanjung in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan.

We presented them with some grocery items and listened to them regarding problems they face. I took serious note of their predicaments and promised to take immediate action and also to refer their problems to the Department of Fisheries to find solution.

I also took the opportunity to explain to them about Budget 2018 and the allocations provided for by our Prime Minister and BN for the fishermen.

During my meeting with the fishermen, I was particularly amazed by Mr. Zaidi Malik who has started the business of selling frozen fish from his home. It was his first day of business yesterday and I managed to purchase some fish from him to support his venture.

Another fishermen, Nor Aiman Ong Abdullah, a Muslim convert, was very happy to met me. He shared his fond memories of working together with my late father, Dato' T Rajagopalu in solving issues faced by the residents of Tamn Seri Tanjung. I was impressed by Nor Aiman's resourcefulness in improving his quality of life as he makes and repairs fish/crab traps for fishermen on a part-time basis to supplement his income.

It is my hope that officers from Department of Fisheries will be able to go to the ground and visit the fishermen to learn about their problems first-hand, as what is practiced by our MB of Negeri Sembilan, YAB Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, instead of waiting for the fishermen to come to the Department of Fisheries as they work long and odd hours and risk their lives to get fresh seafood for us. As such, it is our duty and responsibility to ensure they are well taken care of.
